Early Years in the United Kingdom
Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi
Shri Mataji lived in England for over 16 years from 1973. She has often spoken about the early years, during which she was looking after a handful of lost seekers. They had been damaged by drugs, by following false gurus and by other spiritual misadventures. She would often spend hours with people who had come to her for help with their own personal or spiritual problems.

Shri Mataji's husband, Sir C.P. Srivastava, has also spoken of these times. He would sometimes return home from his work as a Secretary General in the United Nations to find strange people in his sitting room and even somebody wearing his clothes!
But he understood how compassionate and caring was his wife and he tried his best to be tolerant of her social and spiritual experiments.

As time went by, Sir C.P. came to understand the objectives of Sahaja Yoga and the unique benefits which Shri Mataji has so generously offered to the human race.

He has frequently addressed gatherings of Sahaja Yogis in England and overseas. One point which he made about the United Nations organisation was that it had praiseworthy ideals but its philosophy lacked a concept of human evolution.  Back...
